The Opportunity
One of Racing Victoria's constitutional objectives is to ensure that Victorian thoroughbred racing is managed and conducted with the highest integrity, and to continue the outstanding reputation of Victorian thoroughbred racing across the globe.
The Veterinary Services department have a rare and exciting role available as a Sampling Assistant to work on a casual basis to assist and facilitate the conduct of Racing Victoria’s Drug Control Program as directed by the General Manager Veterinary Services.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the collection of samples for the purposes of drug analysis;
- Ensure the security and integrity of samples collection and of the sampling equipment where necessary; and
- Work closely with Official Racecourse Veterinarians in handling horses during sample collection, examinations or treatments as required; and
- Assist veterinarians in the clinical examination of horses and the provision of first aid
About you
As the successful candidate, you must possess the following:
- A strong ability to handle horses in all circumstances and understanding of horse welfare;
- A knowledge of sample collection techniques and processing procedures;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills – both written and oral;
- Outstanding integrity and honesty; and
- A demonstrable ability to exhibit initiative, being proactive and receive direction.
